Tokyo Ghoul is one of the best-selling and most popular manga series in Vietnam. Unfortunately, the anime adaptation faced many mixed opinions because it did not closely follow the original manga.
The “Tokyo Ghoul” franchise has announced that the major project commemorating the anime’s 10th anniversary will be an exhibition with an immersive experience. This project will be released in October this year in Japan. This announcement has left fans completely disappointed, as they were waiting for the announcement of a remake of the anime adaptation. This expectation is very high, especially because the manufacturer has been preparing the countdown for many days, creating great anticipation.
The anime “Tokyo Ghoul” is based on the manga by Sui Ishida, which is one of the most popular series of the past decade. The content tells the story of Ken Kaneki, a young man who became a half-ghoul after an accident. His struggle to maintain his humanity in the violent world of ghouls has captured the imagination of millions of readers.
However, the anime adaptation has been the subject of controversy and disappointment. The first season, despite receiving mixed reviews, was generally well received. But the second season, “Tokyo Ghoul √A” completely changed the manga’s story, deviating significantly from the original plot and making decisions that were not well received by fans.
To further complicate the situation, the third season, “Tokyo Ghoul: Re” attempted to fix the flaws of the second season, but ended up creating more chaos.
Fans of the series are clamoring for an anime remake that is faithful to the original manga. The lack of an anime remake announcement for the 10th anniversary has come as a blow to many people who were hoping to see Kaneki’s story faithfully told in animated form.
Why wasn’t a remake produced despite fan demand? There are several theories about this:
- Pierrot Studios: The studio responsible for the anime adaptation has been criticized for its handling of the series. The studio may not be interested in investing in a remake due to the time and resource investment required (as well as not selling the intellectual property to another studio to handle).
- Shueisha Publishing: As the manga copyright owner, Shueisha may have a role in making decisions about new adaptations. Maybe the publisher’s priority is to focus on other more profitable projects.
- Producers: Decisions about remakes also involve the producers that finance and distribute the anime. There may be a lack of interest or financial support for remaking an already adapted series, despite its critical reception.
Regardless, the Tokyo Ghoul franchise remains popular and beloved, and its anime adaptation treatment leaves much to be desired. The fan community continues to hope that one day justice will be served for Kaneki’s rich and complex story in an adaptation that closely follows the original manga.
